Habit
Notice a trigger and prepare a small alternative for the next opportunity.
An everyday example
After finishing a work task, a social feed is opened automatically. A brief sense of a break easily becomes a longer pause than intended.
The personal thought in this example
I will just look at one more thing.
A connected question
Which cue, action and short-term benefit make up this pattern, and what would you like to try differently?
From a question to a small attempt
What could be tried
A draft could say: “When I finish a task and reach for the phone, I will first choose how I want to spend the break.” An alternative might be looking out of the window briefly or deliberately choosing time on the phone. A realistic personal replacement is chosen without punishment for repetition.
What to check afterwards
Was the cue noticed, and does the alternative fit the need for a break? A later attempt and its obstacle are reported separately. One successful or missed occasion does not describe the whole habit.
An important boundary
One attempt is not evidence of lasting change. No fixed number of days, complete control or solution to complex behaviour through a single rule is promised.
