Forgiveness
Consider the burden and your boundaries. Forgiveness is not a required goal.
An everyday example
A friend has broken an important agreement. Distance is being considered, but advice from others to “forgive” creates additional pressure.
The personal thought in this example
If I do not forgive immediately, it means I am bitter.
A connected question
What does forgiveness mean to you now, and which boundary do you want to keep?
From a question to a small attempt
What could be tried
Different choices can be separated: responding to the burden, continuing a relationship and resuming contact are not the same decision. A personal note might say: “I am not ready to decide about forgiveness; I want to keep this boundary.” The wording can be changed or declined if it does not fit.
What to check afterwards
Are personal wishes clearer than the outside expectation? The ending can be an open question or a boundary, without reconciliation or a claim that the burden has disappeared.
An important boundary
Forgiveness is not a required goal. Personal blame is not assumed, and repair or contact is not prescribed when the person has not chosen it.
