Optional focus

Work

Separate a real demand from a judgment about yourself and prepare your own choice.

An everyday example

Two tasks have the same deadline, and the available time is not enough for both. A manager has not yet specified which takes priority.

The personal thought in this example

If I ask them to set a priority, I will look incapable.

A connected question

Which requirement and time limit need to be clarified for a realistic next step?

From a question to a small attempt

  1. What could be tried

Both tasks and the available time can be stated before preparing a question: “For this deadline I can finish A or B. Which task has priority?” The wording is adjusted to the actual relationship and possibilities. A note about a boundary is also an option, without having to send it immediately.

  2. What to check afterwards

Are the requirement and constraint expressed more clearly? The draft’s usefulness and the feeling about the conversation are separate reports. A priority agreement exists only after it has actually been clarified.

An important boundary

A genuinely excessive workload is not rewritten as a positive-thinking problem. The exercise does not remove organisational conditions or guarantee the manager’s response.
