Optional focus
Disagreement
Clarify what you want to protect: a fact, boundary, fairness or relationship.
An everyday example
An important contribution has been left out of meeting notes. There is a wish to correct the error, alongside concern that the conversation could become a contest.
The personal thought in this example
If I do not prove everything immediately, it will look as though I accept the unfairness.
A connected question
What do you want to protect here: an accurate fact, recognition of a contribution, a boundary or the relationship?
From a question to a small attempt
What could be tried
If an accurate record is the chosen aim, a specific opening can be prepared: “The notes are missing the part about my task. Could we add it?” Rehearsal stays tied to the selected aim and does not imagine the other person agreeing. Postponing the conversation is another option.
What to check afterwards
Does the sentence clearly protect what matters, without adding unknown intentions? Rehearsing it is not a completed conversation, a corrected record or an agreement.
An important boundary
Peace is not automatically more important than fairness, facts or safety. The focus requires neither abandoning a justified concern nor winning an argument.
